PRUNING BASICS   (Adults)

Friday, April 3
10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Dr. Gary Bachman, Extension Horticulturist with the MSU Coastal Research and Extension Center, will strip away the many mysteries of pruning.  Learn the "what, how, when, and why" for shaping plants for optimum health and bloom, as well as the best tools and techniques.  This class will empower you to approach any pruning task that you may encounter in your home landscape with new-found confidence. Admission is free for members, $5 for non-members.  Please register by April 1.

NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY BASICS (Adults)

Saturday, April 4                 
10:00 a.m. to Noon

If you’ve always wanted to take better pictures outdoors, this class is for you!  Join photographer John Young for tips and techniques that will help you get started in nature photography, whether you are using a digital or film camera.  The class will begin indoors with a short discussion of camera basics, and will then journey out onto the grounds to put into practice the topics covered.  Admission is free for members, $5 for non-members.  Please register by April 2.

STRAWBERRIES AND CREAM 

Sunday, April 5
1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Bring the family, and join us to celebrate the history of the old strawberry farm on the lovely Pinecote Pavilion.  Ice cream, fresh strawberries and Picayune Frog Lemonade will be served.  Admission is free and open to the public! 

SPRING WILDFLOWER WALK (Family!)

Saturday, April 11
10 to 11 a.m.

Take a spring tour of our grounds, led an Arboretum staff member.  Wildflowers and other blooming plants will be discussed and observed along the way.  Bring your camera and dress for walking.  Free admission for members and $4 for non-members.   Please register by April 9. 

FLORAL DESIGN: ALWAYS GREEN
(EXTENSION VIDEOCONFERENCE)

Noon to 1:00 p.m.

Bring your lunch and join us for this MSU Extension “Quick Bite” offered over interactive video.  The green revolution is nothing new to floral designer Lynette McDougald, AIFD, MSU Florist Manager.   Known for mimicking nature in design, Lynette will demonstrate that the best design and the best plant materials are right outside our door. With the Senior Seminar in Horticulture class from MSU, tips from organic mechanics to composting.  For any gardening enthusiast, this will be an hour well spent!   Free admission for members and $5 for non-members.   Please register by April 15.

SPRING PLANT SALE

Sat/Sun  April 18 & 19
10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Members Admitted at 9:00 Sat.

Grab a cart and choose from a variety of wonderful native trees, shrubs and perennials for your home landscape.  Come early for the best selection of many hard-to-find plants.  We'll help you select the right plant for the right place on your property.  Free admission.  Arboretum greenhouse. 

YOGA AT PINECOTE PAVILLION   (Adults)

Saturday, April 25
1:30 to 3:00 p.m.

Join certified yoga instructor, James Sones, in the beautiful natural setting of Pinecote Pavilion for a gentle yoga class followed by a short meditation sitting.  Class size is limited to 16.  Yoga mats will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own.  Please arrive at least 10 minutes early.  Admission is free for members, $5 for non-members.  Please register by April 23.

LANDSCAPE SYMPOSIUM

April 30 & May 1

“Native Garden Design: A New Way Of Creating Landscapes”
