Join us for 90+ years combined experience with Betty Sue O'Brian, Traditional Naturopath, Iridoligist, and Herbalist, and Lynda O'Brian Baker, Herbalist & Chemist, as they warmly welcome Rita Martin, Herbalist, Herbal Product Formulator, Blue Boy Herbs, and originator/facilitator of the Blue Boy "Bloom Women's Retreat". These three began learning about and using local plants nearly three decades ago when they began studying with Herbalist Darrell Martin of Blue Boy Herbs. Rita is Darrell's daughter and was only 9 years old when Betty Sue and Lynda met her at the door of their herb class where she was handing out lesson packets and attended all classes, already on board as an Herbalist! Some of Darrell’s first educational herb walks were conducted at Crosby Arboretum, with Betty Sue, Lynda, and Rita in attendance at many of them. All have led numerous herb walks and are honored to continue the tradition, sharing their experiences and plant knowledge with you.

The morning portion of the class will be an herb walk focusing on the "Specific Indications" in King’s American Dispensatory and their personal experiences with the plants. Betty Sue, Lynda, and Rita say they are asked most often, "what do we do with it, and how do we use it?" The afternoon will consist of a user-friendly overview of the ways in which the plants are prepared, preserved, and enjoyed. They will bring examples of different preparations of herbs and make a tincture and a salve for you to take home. Cost for non-members $25; members $20. Limited to 30 persons. This program is sponsored by The Crosby Arboretum Foundation.
