As we begin 2026, we are pleased to host a combined Forge Day and Heritage Festival at The Crosby Arboretum on Saturday, February 7th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
We believe that no matter how far you go in life, you should never forget where you came from. As time moves forward, many of the skills and trades associated with farming and rural life are becoming lost arts. This event celebrates the pioneer skills that were once vital to the survival of earlier generations of Piney Woods people and thankfully are being carried on by the quality craftspersons, artisans, and artists who are joining us for this event. Perhaps you will discover a new life-long hobby! Attendees will enjoy the exhibits and demonstrations of traditional skills such as basketmaking, spinning, weaving, quilting, music, dance, storytelling, and more!
Members of the Gulf Coast Blacksmith Association and the Gulf States Knife Makers Association will demonstrate their skills and offer their wares. World-renowned knife maker Paul LeBatard will be on hand with knives for sale. Bladesmith Seth J. Borries, Season 6 Forged in Fire Champion, will also be demonstrating his skills. There will be many amazing blacksmiths to meet… Jared Kattengell, Larry House, Ed Lott, Bob Mercer, and more. This year, we will also be featuring Sam Albritton, a coppersmith!
Would you like to try your hand at the forge with supervision by an expert? Please wear closed-toed shoes. Safety equipment will be available, and a release waiver is required.
Cattleman Bob Rouse will be showing off one of his Piney Woods cows. Erin Haynes will be displaying her Babydoll sheep, a gentle, heritage breed known for their soft, fine wool. And…the star of the show will once again return: Leftie, a miniature donkey with a huge personality!
Event admission for nonmembers is $5 for adults, $2 for children 12 and under, and $4 for seniors, first responders and military members. Members are FREE (please show your membership card).
